DAY FIVE - 2 SUITCASES
Just yesterday, Leigh and I were reminiscing about how blessed we are.
When we moved to Ballarat we literally only had 2 suitcases each with us. We obviously couldn't move everything with us without paying a lot of money. Instead of selling our stuff in Vancouver, we felt we were to give a lot it away which was fun but also hard when a lot of our items were wedding gifts. I had to come to terms that "stuff is just stuff". Some things did have sentimental value, but I learned to give them to people that really mattered to me. I learned that I had to cull, then take time away from doing it and cull again, and keep culling till the job was done.
When we moved to Australia we had no idea what we were going to do for "stuff". We were uncertain about what we would do for a bed, couch, fridge, kitchen table and dishes with little to NO money, but we trusted that God would take care of us. And He did.
Luke 12:22-31 says, " Then Jesus said to his disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. 23 For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. 24 Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! 25 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? 26 Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?
27 “Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 28 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith! 29 And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. 30 For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31 But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well."
Little by little we were given everything we needed, when we needed it. We couldn't believe it! After awhile Leigh and I were able to find jobs and were able to budget some money to purchase items we wanted. So now, everyday when we look around us we are not only reminded of God's faithfulness to us, but His generosity! And for us, this means that we can be a blessing to others which is so much fun!
I wonder if God will ask us to move again. Would I pack those 2 suitcases without fear, and trust Him wholeheartedly with our future? It seems harder when kids are involved. But if He asks... I'm on my way.
