The Blessing Way

It is quite common to host a baby shower for someone before they have their babies, to say that you want to celebrate the new life (lives) in them, and to shower them with wonderful gifts and presents.

Heather, who is carrying twins, and her husband Dave are soon leaving us in Vancouver to live in Winkler - And of course, we couldn't have her leave us without having a shower for her and her two baby boys!

After much talk and consideration, we learned about "The Blessing Way". This kind of "shower" or get together, is a more serious and spiritual focus time on blessing the mother as she steps into a new phase in life - motherhood! Heather was opting for this kind of gathering rather than the games commonly done at these type of showers.

So all of the YWAM women gathered together, and thanks to the hard work of Audrey and Joanna, we created cool ways to bless Heather as she stepped into this new role as "mom". We even had Wade make her a crown made out of cherry blossoms to adorn her. And had a ball of yarn that we passed to everyone and cut into small bracelets as a symbol of all being connected together. We then, are keeping the bracelet on til the day of delivery so as not to forget about her.

We didn't completely ignore some of the things that can normally happen at a shower though. There was a huge buffet of desserts and treats displayed, that any mennonite ladies' group would be impressed with.

As well we spent time watching Heather open gifts that we presented to her and her children. One of the gifts given to the twins from another mother of twins, Gwen, was a story of individuality and love that Jenn read aloud to Heather. It was really well done.

Heather, you look great! I can't believe you are like 6 months (is that right? Angie have you been married that long?) with TWINS! You hardly look 6 months with ONE!

Oh and you can get those little "Boob Man" shirts on ebay.

Sorry Angie using your blog for my own conversations. But at least you know I am not talking smack about you.

They aren't just words! I don't just say these thins. In fact I have a whole line up of things to say to people when I think they are HUGE but still need a pick me up. Didn't have to use those. Then I was reminded of your height and I am even more impressed!!!!! You look really great! How are you feeling?
